Reply to the letter of 28 March. Author continues discussion of the Bemer's paper "History of ALGOL". They will have to choose between publishing it with the title changed and rejecting it.

Reply to the letter of 24 April. Authors ask to extend deadline untill August 1. A size of the paper is about 50 pages.

The authors regret that they are forced to withdraw the proposed contribution on the Formal Definition of PL/1 for publication in the Review.

The author encloses the notice about the late Richard Goodman, written by Dr.Bryan Higman. He informs that Mr. Colouris is revising his paper and send it to the editors by the end of this month.

The author sends a copy of the revised version of Bemer's paper on ALGOL. He thinks it's necessary to accept his paper for publication. Mr.Halpern and the author are going to write a preface for the next volume, paying tribute to Goodman's part in the history of the Annual Review.

Halpern and Shaw have to report to Editorial Board members a decision, that they have been forced by circumstances to take without their consent: to publish new paper of Dr. A.L.Samuel instead of Lucas's paper.

Reply to the letter of July, 11. Authors submit the paper for the following volume. To the end of this year they hope to improve the second version of their formal definition of PL/1.

critical remarks on the received articles

This is a report by M.Halpern and C.Shaw on the current status of the Annual Review. Enclosed is a list of all the papers submitted for the forthcoming volume.

C.Shaw sends to all the members of the Editorial Board a copy of the paper by Prof. Samuel, which was accepted for publication as explained in the letter of July 27, 1967.

The author decided to include the Coulouris' paper in Volume 6 of the Annual Review because the paper needs the revision. Comments on this paper are attached. The author agrees with the addressee and Ershov that they will not accept papers outside their area.

The letter is addressed to all the members of the Editorial Board of the Annual Review. The copy of a paper by P.J.Brown submitted for publication in Volume 6 is sent.

Christopher Shaw reports to members of the Editorial Board that ARAP Volume 5 has received its first excellent critical mention. He hopes that Volume 5 will be out by spring or early summer of 1968. A copy of the articles' list for the Volume 6 is attached.
