The author describes in detail events happened to Dennis' relatives - wife's brother and her sister - in 1986. His smart son is now two and a half. He tells about his brother and his mother, about a wife's and his own job.

The author describes many excitements and disappointments of the outgoing 1987: the joyous birth of the daughter, the uncertainty of his finances entailed to a separation him from his wife with children (a decision of the wife), the joy from new working ideas and the gratitude for the treaty signed by Reagan and Gorbachev.
