                            Academician Andrei Petrovich Ershov, head of laboratory of the

                      Computing Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences’ Siberian Branch

 

                                                                            Born in 1931, Russian, non-party, higher education,
                                                                        graduated from the Moscow State University in 1954

 

A.P. Ershov has been working for Siberian Branchof the USSR AS since 1959, first at the Institute
 of Mathematics, then since 1964 – at the computing Center as the head of programming
department, since April of 1971 – as the head of informatics department. Proved his Ph.D. thesis in
January of 1962, his thesis for a Doctor's degree – in May of 1967. Elected the USSR AS
corresponding member and entitles professor in 1970; full member of the USSR AS since 1984.

 

Since 1957 A.P. Ershov has been taking active part in establishing the USSR SBAS Computing
Center, his contribution being rewarded with the Labor Red Banner order in April of 1967 and with
the second Labor Red Banner order in October of 1975. Regarding the results of the 10th five-year
plan, awarded with the Sign of Honor order in May of 1981.

 

A.P. Ershov is the author of more that 300 scientific works in informatics, theoretical and system
programming, including five monographs. Received Academician Krylov Award in 1984 for his
works in the theory of mixed computation and the USSR Council of Ministers Award in 1985 for his
works in programming automation. A.P. Ershov is the USSR representative at the IFIP 2nd
committee on programming languages and is an honorary member of British Computing Society.

 

A.P. Ershov carries on a heavy teaching load at the Novosibirsk State University.

 

A.P. Ershov carries great authority with the staff, does much public work.

 

 A.P. Ershov is politically mature, morally stable, modest in private life; married with two children,
a good family man.

 

His last trip was to West Berlin in 1985 for taking part in an international conference in software
theory and application. Successfully coped with the assignment, had no reproofs on the occasion of
the trip. The report was produced.

 

Directorate, Party bureau, and the trade-union committee of the USSR SBAS Computing Center
recommend sending A.P. Ershov to FRG in April of 1986 for the term of five days to participate in
the IFIP Working Conference on program specification and transformation, and respond for him.

 

The reference is approved at the USSR SBAS Computing Center Party bureau meeting (protocol N
_______ ) in the presence of A.P. Ershov.
