                                                                     INVITATION

The symposium “Algorithms in modern mathematics and its applications” is to be held in Urgench
September 16-22, 1979. It is planned to invite around 50 persons, half of them – foreign scientists.
The symposium is being conducted by the Institute of Cybernetics of the Uzbek SSR Academy of
Science with the assistance of Computing Center of Siberian Branch of the USSR Acad. of Sci. and
All-Union “Intourist” Association.

The Organizing Committee invites you to take part in the symposium.

As you know, the symposium program will be adaptable enough. In particular, the procedure of
preliminary selection of contributions and publication of abstracts collection is not intended. At the
same time, preliminary information exchange among the participants in highly desirable in order to
make the symposium program more productive.

One may anticipate at least three forms of participation in the symposium work that require certain
preliminary preparation: delivering a talk; discussion organization; panel speech at a discussion. In
particular, a series of talks of historical nature, dedicated to Al-Khorezmi and the periods of
fundamental algorithmic notions formation, are certainly being planned.

For the sake of better program preparation, would you be so kind as to send any of your
considerations concerning you participation in the symposium’s work (the title of your talk or a
discussion, abstract, etc.) as soon as possible. The program arrangement will become sybstantially
simpler if you will forward your considerations at the two addresses (both copies may be in
Russian): to me and to professor Don Knuth (Prof. Don Knuth, computer Science Department,
Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. 94305, USA.)

It is supposed that the symposium working languages will be Russian and English with two-way
simultaneous translation.

If you can corroborate your presentation with any written material, it should be prepared in English
and 50 copies should be made. The availability of such material will allow to save time and raise
efficiency of work.

In view of specification of the dates of the symposium you are kindly requested to confirm your
attendance. Considering the great interest in the symposium on the part of many prominent
specialists, we hope that this unique scientific forum will prove to be a great success, and your
personal attendance will undoubtedly contribute to it.
