Substantiation

    for invitation of foreign scientists as the USSR Academy of Sciences guests to the Symposium
                    “Algorithms in Modern Mathematics and its Applications”

                                        (Urgench, September 16-22, 1979)

The established goal of the mentioned symposium is profound discussion of fundamental issues of
the theory of computation subject to the latest achievements in mathematics and its computer-aided
applications. The list of foreign scientists being invited to the symposium includes the leading
specialists having made a great contribution to the theory of algorithms and programs and, as far as
we know, having a positive attitude towards the progress in cooperation with Soviet scientists. All of
them share the symposium’s objectives and are interested in participating. Taking into account the
symposium’s restricted membership, each of the participants is to make his original and unique
contribution to the symposium work, so it is desirable to secure a quorum as full as possible. At the
same time a part of the scientists, although having desire to come, reported that their participation
depends on the financial support still to be found.

Proceeding from the mentioned above, the organizing committee singled out five scientists from the
potential participants who, on one hand, need financial support for their trip, and on the other hand,
whose participation in the symposium is especially desirable due to their scientific interests and
national representation. These are professors
