Letter, W. A. Wulf->A.P. Ershov, 09.10.1980The author finds the behaviour of the USSR governement towards dissidents and Afghanistan as abhorent as other American scientists do, but feels that it is important to keep an open channel of communication between two countries. Nevertheless under present situation he came to the conclusion that it would be unwise for A.Ershov to place himself in an incomfortable position when visiting the Carnegie-Mellon University and thinks, should Ershov accept his previous invitation, it would be best to meet on personal ground only.
